World Maths Day is coming up on March 4th. World Math Day is a day when students from all around the world meet online to compete in a math competition. The math competition consists of answering as many mental math questions as you can...as fast as you can. CAIS achieved the highest result of any participating school in the 2007 World Maths Day event. Stephan Lam from CAIS achieved the highest score in the world. Last year, over 1 million students from 150 countries participated.
This year we will participate by trying to answer as many math questions as we can throughout the day while continuing in our other class studies. So encourage your son/daughter to become familiar with logging in. They all have been assigned a user name and password (that should be in the clear folder in their handbook). Go to http://www.worldmathsday.com, sign in and start practicing! Or click on "World Maths Day" below "Resources" on the top right corner of this website.
You may also sign up for a home registration (see the website for details). The grade 2 students should be practicing addition and subtraction questions.
This is a great activity to practice their mental math and computer skills-two very important aspects of learning.
